Wood Coasters

Jonathan bought a 3040 CNC machine with a 350W DC spindle.

He’s already a machinist but I’m familiar with this particular machine class so I I’ve been showing him some software tool-chain examples and general operation.

I figured coasters where a great project to get started. We used inside/outside profile cutting, pocketing and engraving.

We finished a couple with danish oil. Doesn’t seem worth the effort. They seem nice with bare wood and are more functional…

Jon came up with a nice method of staining then engraving. Gives high contrast and shows wood grain well.

So far my coaster collection has some cockadoodledoo and some Tariq Anwar coasters. Tariq’s links: Bandcamp, Facebook. The concept for the coaster came from Curtis Tiegs (web).
