Here’s a cool method of transferring a photo to a piece of wood. I’m using a piece of particle board from some cheap shelves and drilling a series of holes in it to represent the photo. I’ll try a nicer piece of wood soon.
Start with a jpeg file. Crop and greyscale it in Gimp. Using Jason Dorie’s Halftoner software you can create g-code to drill little holes representing different tones.
The spindle was off because it gave off a howl. So I took it off and tossed some oil into the bearings.
I also tried to wipe blue paint on it hoping it would make more contrast. That didn’t work. After it dries I’ll try and sand it and see what happens.
