DIY Laptop Tray
I like to sit around with my laptop so a tray really helps keep the mouse and everything under control. You can get a tray at a business or computer store for about 25-40 bucks. I find they warp and don’t do well with the extra heat from the computer. They’re also excessively large since they’re one-size-fits-all.
I decided to make one out of hardboard. I measured my laptop and made up a few parts to raise the laptop from the tray as well as add stiffness. I glued together, slapped a piece of foam on the bottom and presto. A tray for about a dollar. You can put a hand towel on it if your in and out of the pool. Make sure you raise the laptop high enough above the tray so it can breath over a hand towel. Otherwise you may overheat your laptop and do damage.
Works very well except when carrying it, sometimes the mouse slips off. I added an elastic band that can give the mouse friction when carrying. In any future version I’ll make a feature that holds down the mouse. Perhaps a little raised frame the mouse can sit in. But it works too well to make another one just yet. I’ll wait for something to go wrong before making another.
