I saw this cool post in Reddit with a spinny thing that looks like it was stamped from sheet.

It inspired me to try to make one from a CD.  The proof of concept was really rough but it’s convincing enough to try it again.

I broke the CD three times while bending it. Next time I’ll be more careful, will use heat or create better features in the design for bending. I think if I make it carefully it can be really nice like the reddit one.

On the second attempt I was more careful and bent with heat.

Here’s the proof of concept against the original. It came out pretty good but the light source is not a point (or is too close). So the effect isn’t as pronounced….
