Here are some experiments using vinyl, CD and DVDs as inlay to make a portrait. Follow those links for more detail on what and how I’m cutting.

I cut away on a vinyl record and add a second layer of vinyl to the back so pieces don’t fall through. I then make parts from different color CD and DVD to inlay.

The first attempt was with a black record label and I used the data side of the CD/DVDs. I didn’t finish it since I didn’t think the label was working. A lot of text and cutting the label is a nightmare. Even if it works, making another with this technique is considerably more labor.

I made another attempt (which has some of the the lighter pieces missing) where I avoided the label. That looks much nicer.
